Spain: Malaga v Everton

In August 2012 I went to watch Everton play a pre-season match against Malaga, who had qualified for the Champions League after finishing fourth the previous season in La Liga.

We lost the match 1-0, but had a great weekend on the Costa del Sol.

I stayed with Mat and Paul in a boutique hostel in the centre of the town and soon met up with Jon, Terry, Mark and Phil.

Our visit coincided with a massive fiesta in Malaga, which meant thousands of people partying in the streets and a great atmosphere along the cobbled streets of the old town. Good times.

We had a big session on the first night that started calmly, with a couple of beers in a tapas bar, but ended in a haze after we decided to buy pint-sized jugs of mojito.

On matchday we met up with other friends, such as Howard and Kev, and walked to the stadium further up the (dried out) river. The game was a bit of a non-event, as these pre-season affairs tend to be, but we had a good turnout of blues to support the team.

The day after the match I headed up to the castle in the morning before joining Phil and Jon for an afternoon on the beach. We had a great final meal of grilled sardines before heading to the airport and home.
